DVDs on Demand - The coming of on-demand generation

McDonalds has launched RedBox, a video vending business.  Similar to Coke vending machines, these machines dish out DVDs at $1 a day. For every extra day, you are charged an extra $1. If you keep the DVD for 25 days, the DVD is yours! These machines are placed at supermarkets.

I believe this is just the beginning. The way products and services will be sold in the future will undergo a sea change. Companies have to identify new or alternative distribution channels to satisfy demand in real time. This will over time build-up into a warehouse of knowledge about customer interests and buying patterns. This will then lead to "rule-based" recommendation selling.
