Ad Age has an interesting article( registration required) on how US consumers spend their time.

I was quite intrigued to check if there is any similar data for consumers in other economies and see if there are different trends one can spot across countries.

Here are some topline trends:

  • The average American sleeps for 8.6 hours
  • Consumers spend 11% of their leisure time in front of TV!
  • Teens spend 7 minutes a day on reading while people in the age group 20-34 spend 10 minutes and age group 45-54 spend 19 min
  • Consumers in the age group 35-44 have the least leisure time
  • Americans tend to spend less time on physical activity( sports and fitness) as they get older
  • Americans on an average spend 24 min a day on shopping
