Forget the wallet or purse when shopping...

Finger scanners from Pay By Touch are being set up at Jewel-Osco locations. While this high-tech approach to paying for groceries is new to many local residents, Pay By Touch has already installed this system in more than 140 stores, including Piggly Wiggly and Cub Foods.

It isn’t difficult to enroll for the program at Jewel-Osco. Customers must first sign up for Jewel-Osco’s Preferred Card. To sign up, they must have a personal check, driver’s license or state/military identification, and must use each index finger to get a scan.

After signing up, customers can go to any checkout counter, place their finger on the reader and enter a search number, which is usually their phone number. The money will be deducted from the customer’s checking account. A single customer can store up to six bank accounts on the system.
